This year’s Ojude-Oba festival took place on Thursday in Ijebuland.

It was celebration unlimited, and as usual, many illustrious sons and daughters of the soil across the world stormed the ancient town of Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, to witness the event.

The Ojude Oba in Ijebuland is an annual event, during which indigenes of different age groups, their friends and associates from both far and near thronged the palace of the Awujale, for the carnival-like celebration.

This year’s edition no doubt offered superlative pleasure, and no attendee was left out, as everyone present participated to the fullest.

The spectacle of the town could be described as a splash of colours, like the plumes of a beautiful bird.

It was the yearly Ojude Oba, celebrated two days after the Islamic Eid-el-Kabir as an act of obeisance and declaration of love to the paramount ruler of the Ijebu people- the Awujale of Ijebuland, and is now celebrated by all people of Ijebu descent, irrespective of religious inclinations.

The event has spanned over 100 years since the first set of Muslim converts within the geographical space known today as Ijebu Ode, who decided to visit the reigning Awujale with gifts and accolades as a mark of gratitude to him for allowing them to practice their new-found faith.

The opportunity was also used to supplicate for oneness and unity within the king’s domain, as well as long life and prosperity for him.

This aspect of unity got accentuated this year, as the theme was, “Celebration of Rich Cultural Heritage.”
