It was an evening of joy and entrainment, as entertainment journalists were on Tuesday put on the spot at the maiden edition of the Bigi Nigerian Media Idol, a singing competition put together by the headline sponsor for the ongoing Nigerian Idol Season 6, Rite Foods Nigeria Limited makers Bigi soft drinks.

Nigerian Tribune entertainment editor (Friday Treat), Rotimi Ige took the shine of the day as he emerged winner of the contest, which served as a hangout moment for the entertainment pen pushers.

Ige, who contested with other nine journalists, went home with the cash prize of N250,000 and 10 packs of Bigi products. He thrilled the audience with Olufunmi by Style Plus on his first appearance, and thereafter amazed the audience with African Queen by Nigeria’s pop legend, 2Face Idibia.

The first runner-up, Blessing walked home with a cash prize of N150,000 and 10 packs of Bigi products, while the second runner-up, Funsho Arogundade of PM News smiled to the bank with N100,000 and 10 packs of Bigi products.

The contest, according to the Managing Director of Rite Foods Ltd, Seleem Adegunwa, is an initiative of the company to allow journalists beyond reporting the entertainment industry, showcase their musical talents with rewarding benefits.

He noted that entertainment, music especially, has brought more honour to the country, making reference to Burna Boy, who recently won the Grammy awards.

“Burna Boy winning the Grammy awards has further helped put Nigeria on the global map, and for us at Rite Foods Ltd, the Bigi Nigerian Media Idol is a platform that adds immense value,” Adegunwa said.
