Award-winning director Tope Oshin Ogun is not new to awards and recognition. In fact her sitting room is filled with plaques from various award bodies. But if you ask the mother of three who is well married to the scriptwriter Yinka Ogun about the award that she considers the ‘mother’ of all the awards she has received, she would probably say that apart from the AMAA’s, the only other award she would easily describe as the biggest is the award that came from Ghana last week. Tope received the 1st “African Woman in Film Award” endowed by AWDF (African Women’s Developmental) and presented to her by the organizers of the Golden Movie Awards. As soon as she received the news, Tope took to her facebook and Istagram handle to celebrate the winning.

She wrote: “I was honoured in absentia last night at the Golden Movie Awards in Accra, Ghana, with the 1st ‘African Woman in Film Award’ by AWDF (African Women’s Developmental Fund). Thanks to @dadaomowunmi for collecting on my behalf. ( In their words in a prior publication, ‘The award is given to an African woman who has demonstrated through her work, measurable efforts to change the narrative and challenge stereotypes about women on the continent.’

“ I am totally honoured and humbled to be considered this woman described above, and more than grateful to God, for what He is doing with me, my journey so far and where I am headed. Halleluyah!”
