Encomium as Justice Opeyemi Oke bows out

Justice Opeyemi Oke, the Chief Judge (CJ) of Lagos State, on June 10, retired from public service, having reached the statutory retirement age of 65. The immediate past governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, appointed Oke in September 2017 as the 16th Chief Justice of the State. She joined the Lagos State Judiciary as a Senior Magistrate and was Chief Magistrate Grade (1) between 1986 and 1996 and Deputy Chief Registrar from 1993 to 1994.

She was appointed as the Judge of High Court of Lagos State on July 19, 1996 and succeeded her sister, Justice Olufunmilayo Atilade, who retired as Chief Judge on September 24, 2017. During her two-year tenure as Chief Judge, Oke introduced many innovations and reforms that transformed the state judiciary.
