Florals like denim are a fashion staple, appearing all year round, good for casuals and business wear and never going out of style. From time immemorial, these super romantic prints have emerged on the fashion scene, with plenty of opportunities to mix and match with other fashion pieces, embracing some flower power to your attire for a more feminine aesthetic.

Whether you choose a floral print dress, skirts, trousers, or a pretty floral top, almost every woman loves floral prints as a great incarnation of feminine style. However, depending on your style, age and attitude, florals can look cute or matronly, if you style it wrong but since we don’t want this happening, we have put together a guide on how you can pull off the floral prints like a boss lady.

Brighten up
To make your combo brighter and less boring, infuse bold but decent floral prints to inject some personality into your look. Depending on the occasion, you may opt for bouquets in bold and bright colours, or in watercolour pastels. If your wardrobe is filled with mostly solids, especially in dark colours, adding a burst of bright floral print can be just what’s needed for building an interesting outfit, providing a little spark to your day. Make sure you know the occasion you are attending to, the more fun, relaxed and casual the event is, the brighter and bolder you may go. Try pairing florals with solids in the same colour family, or ground it with accessories like shoes, clutch, scarf, belts and jewellery in neutrals and metallic.

Tone it down: Although floral patterns can be bright, bold and busy, you can easily tone down your floral pattern by adding a little bit of calm into the look. Investing in floral prints in soft and pastel colours are one option to tone down the look, or you can go with minimal floral prints on solid colours, as well as mix and match the bright florals with casual pairing such as classic denim jacket, a simple blazer and sporty footwear.

Pick a size
Through the runways or street styles, we’ve all seen traditional floral prints, dainty, feminine, soft, and totally classic, while you can also expect to see a more modern takes, large, statement-making graphic florals, on tops and dresses. Generally, the scale of the floral pattern should align with the frame of the figure wearing it. A large floral pattern can overwhelm a petite woman whilst a miniature pattern can look too dainty on a bigger woman. As for the contrast of the colours, along with the placement of the patterns, if the floral is not all over the garment, pay attention that placement of the print, especially if it comes with large and bold size or colours will highlight part of your figure where the print is placed. Also, keep in mind that bright, bold colours as well as high-contrast colour combinations will draw more attention and potentially add more width to the figure, compared with lower contrast, darker or more tonal combinations.

However, since fashion is all about fun and attitude, whether you pick bold or soft florals, in large or small scale, wearing them with your own personality is the most crucial way to have all the endless fashion fun and excitement. If you are comfortable with the prints, than you’ll be fine wearing whichever types of floral patterns you want to pull off. Or, better still, you can go with moderate options, mid-range floral in natural tones.
