Nollywood producer and actress, Lilian Afegbai, recently launched her lingerie line called Lily’s Secret. The range of style, which includes bras, chemises, corsets, garters, panty hoses, rompers, stockings, sleepwear, thongs and waist-trainers, is targeted at women of all sizes, ages and shapes.

Speaking to The Guardian, the entrepreneur said, “we have everything that makes a woman sexy, we find out that a lot of brands do not pay attention to the plus-sized women and I want to ensure that this class of women also feel classy with their bodies.”

While stressing that her love of lingerie was born out of the desire to look good behind closed doors and keeping clean within, she said that having had conversations with a lot of women, who think they cannot feel sexy in their skin because of the size of their tummy or shape, her brand is out to solve such problems.

“I have always loved to look good even when no one is watching. Feeling great is the cornerstone of seduction, and it starts with you feeling fabulous underneath your clothes”

A dream she has had for so long, Afegbai single-handedly designed the lingerie range with body positivity and inclusivity in mind. There are a lot of lingerie brands in Nigeria, with only a handful of Nigerian-owned brands, and Lilly’s Secrets is forging the underwear of the future. In the age of body positivity and feminism, the brand is embracing all the curves, folds, rolls, scars, love handles, and stretch marks.

With the production done in Turkey, Afegbai looks forward to manufacturing in Nigeria even though there are issues of lack of electricity, high cost of diesel and sourcing for quality raw materials. “I will prefer to produce here in Nigeria because we have really hardworking people, the circumstances surrounding us makes it more challenging.

While advising women to appreciate and accept their bodies the way they are, she said, “growing up I used to hate the fact that I had small boobs, but then I grew my confidence and today I appreciate my body; I can wear any dress and feel really comfortable in them.

“The future of Lily’s Secret is to go international and we want to have women ordering from different parts of the world. We are a brand that caters for different sizes; even if you hardly find your size, we will take your measurement and customise yours to fit,” she added.
