As more Nigerians embrace traditional attires, people are daily coming up with new ideas on how to make these outfits more creative and stylish. To this end, designers and those that set the pace in the fashion world experiment with different fabrics and textures to create that unique and sophisticated look. One of such local fabrics that are becoming more popular is the kente. This fabric just doesn’t fade. So, when you want to make that lasting impression, you can never go wrong with this fabric.

Though it originated from Ghana, kente has become a staple in stylish men and women’s wardrobe. The kente fabric is used to make stunning styles and designs for men and women. And the fact that it comes in bright and fascinating colours is an added advantage. For that outstanding look at weddings, church services and other significant ceremonies, this fabric is your best bet.

Mr. Lexy Mojo-Eyes, a fashion ambassador and convener, Africa Fashion Reception, said the kente fabric is a Ghanaian brand that is now acclaimed globally. He said: “The kente fabric is of two kinds. They include the woven fabric, which is more expensive and the prints, which is made in the different shades of the original woven ones. In Ghana, it is worn during important ceremonies. It is also worn by almost everyone and is highly accepted by other people, aside Ghanaians.

“Kente can be used as a traditional outfit for a bride, just like it can also be worn for social outings. Jackets, skirts and pants can be made out of it as office wears. Accessory like shawl, which can be thrown around the shoulder can also be made of it.”

According to him, Kente can be worn as a complete jacket and also worn as a dress. Ladies can look stylish wearing the kente as a form of dinner dress for social outing or as a suit for corporate outings.

“To make a statement and look fabulous in kente outfits, women should go for nice jewelry and good shoes. Don’t forget to jazz up your look with a nice hair-do or headties, for that complete African look,” he said.
