EbonyLife Films’ Chief Daddy, the third-highest-grossing movie in Nollywood box office history, will be available to viewers around the world from March 15, 2019 on Netflix.

When Lagos-based billionaire Chief Daddy keels over suddenly at the dinner table, there’s a scramble amongst family members, household staff and mistresses for a slice of his fortune. But there’s a catch – a codicil to his will declares that they must find a way to work together to arrange his funeral, or risk losing everything.

The Niyi Akinmolayan film enjoyed tremendous success in Nigeria and Ghana, emerging as the Number 1 Nollywood film of 2018 – even more remarkable because it was only released in cinemas on December 14.

Chief Daddy is the third EbonyLife Films title to be acquired by Netflix, after Fifty (2015) and The Wedding Party (2016), taking more of Nollywood’s top-grossing films to a global audience via the world’s most-popular streaming service.

Executive producer Mo Abudu is excited that the African diaspora will finally be able to access Chief Daddy on Netflix.

“Being able to satisfy the demands of African viewers around the globe to watch Chief Daddy – and so soon after its in-cinema run – is a wonderful opportunity,” she says. “Nigerians abroad follow all the latest developments back home, and we’ve had scores of requests to watch the film online, so we’re delighted to partner with Netflix to share our stories and bring joy and laughter to millions of Nollywood film lovers worldwide with Chief Daddy.”

With three of its films topping the all-time Nollywood box office chart, having grossed nearly ₦1.4 Billion, EbonyLife Films has established itself as a dominant presence in Nigerian cinema in a comparatively short space of time.

Matching big names and high production values with strong marketing campaigns to create hit films that Nigerian audiences want to watch, EbonyLife Films’ movies continue to drive the popularity of Nollywood films around the world.
