Celebrities and COVID-19 lockdown: A peep into their social media timelines

With the lockdown directive crippling production activities, some notable celebrities have found themselves locked on social media in the last couple of days. Here is a peep into the timelines of some notable screen celebrities.

Richard Mofe Damijo
AWARD-winning actor, Richard Mofe- Damijo or RMD for short, who revealed on his timeline that it was tough cancelling several appointments as a result of the lockdown, has been busy promoting his show- MrX Family show- on his social media timelines, whilst also imploring fans to ‘stay safe and remember to wash and sanitise.’

The show now airs on AIT every Sunday at 7pm. A week before the lockdown order came into force, the Delta State-born actor and lawyer made a post without caption and wrote: “Corona scare has even affected captions. I wonder what isolation would be like without constant light and Internet.

“Just staying at home and cancelling all public engagements alone is a challenge. How has your day been so far? Still think we are safe? What with stories of possible affected people hiding away and afraid to come out and be tested?

“What would you do if you know your best friend is infected with the virus and he is hiding it? Will your report him or her?”
Of course, there were varied responses from his teeming fans. The handsome actor got so many likes (thumb ups) on day two of the lockdown when he urged, in a post on his timeline, the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) “to step and tell us (Nigerians) how much relief they can bring to Nigerians” from the plenty “seized rice, toato vegetable oil and all other food items they have in their possessions” since food is a major part of the lockdown.

Ada Ameh
NOTABLE actress, Ada Ameh, has her timeline buzzing with so many likes and comments of gratitude for taking to her timeline to speak “the minds of Nigerians” as the country entered day five of the lockdown.

The star actress of The Johnson comedy series fame posted a no holds barred video on her timeline, where she urged the relevant authorities to provide constant power supply as the first step towards providing the much-needed succor for citizens.

In the video, which has received over 2,000 shares and nearly 20,000 likes, the Benue State-born actress said: “I am very upset and I feel like crying. What kind of country is this? You said people should stay at home, we all understand that this Coronavirus is a pandemic, but why can’t something work in this country?

“There is no light. People have stocked their homes and there is no light to preserve the food and everywhere is generator noise. We are doing everything humanly possible to encourage people to sit at home and to educate them on the dangers of moving about and for God’s sake, give us light (electricity)… let people be able to sit in their houses…

“If people are sitting at home, let them have the basic amenities, such as light. Let there be light.”

Ada went on and on in the video, almost in tears, and she has not made a follow up post since then. But the video has continued to trend.

Omowunmi Dada
LIKE her colleagues, actress Omowunmi Dada is observing the stay at home order. The amiable and hardworking actress, model and presenter shared a post on her Instagram handle on Day One of the lockdown, where she shared a message of hope with her fans, urging them to stay safe, self-isolate and adhere to the rule of social distancing.

She wrote: “We are all in an uncharted territory with COVID-19 and during these uncertain times, my thoughts and concerns turn to the health and safety of our nation and the globe.

“We don’t know when things will ease. However, what I do know is that we are a strong people and we will walk through this difficult time together from home.”

She got near 3,000 likes for this post, but when she made a post next day of joining the don’t rush challenge, which is more about self- crushing, Omowunmi’s post got an instant 10,000 views.

Bukky Wright
IT was Bukky Wright’s 53rd birthday anniversary on Day One of the lockdown and the veteran actress took to her timeline to wish herself well, while imploring her fans and family to stay safe and observe the social distancing rule.

This was how the actress of vast credit captured her day of joy: “Wish myself the best today and for evermore. I give all glory to Almighty God.”
Prior to the lockdown, the actress had posted a video in Arabic, and in an accompanying post, she requested her fans to pray in whatever language they want for God to “protect and save us all.”She also wrote: “Please stay safe and protect yourselves and loved ones.”
