Caroline Eme Bassey (1948 – 2019)

Mrs. Caroline Eme Bassey was born in Victoria-Cameroon on January 3, 1948 into a humble yet a royal home of Chief Asuquo Nyong Umoh Esoho of the Duke house in Calabar and Bishop Esther Boco Cobham of Cobham house in Calabar.

Mrs. Bassey was the first child in the family of seven children. She was nurtured by both her father and mother in Cameroon till 1952 when they relocated to their mother land Calabar in Cross River State, where she grew up till puberty.

She began her Primary education in Victoria-Cameroon and continued in Calabar at Edgerley Memorial Primary School, Calabar in 1953. At the end of her primary school in 1958, she continued her secondary education (1-3) at Holy Child Memorial School and later moved to Mary Hanney Secondary School- Oron, Akwa ibom State to complete her secondary school (4-5) education.

At the end of her secondary school, Mrs.. Bassey returned to Calabar and proceeded to T.T.C (Teachers Training College) in pursuit of what she was convinced was her passion, purpose and calling – Teaching. To be more grounded in the occupation she was pursuing, she proceeded to A.T.T.C (Advanced Teachers Training College) Uyo, where she completed her training as a qualified teacher.

In 1989, she applied and got admission in to University of Calabar as a sandwich student to study Guidance and Counseling and graduated in 1992 from the University of Calabar with a Bachelor of Education degree in guidance and counseling.

Armed with the acquired knowledge, she continued the profession she loved so well and took on the responsibility of counseling her children, adults and most especially, children in her school and around her on the right steps to take educationally and otherwise and with this, she touched so many lives.

Schools she had served included Lagos Anglican Girls Grammar School. (LAGGS) 1985-1993, Ansa-ru-deen Grammar School. (1994-1998), Surulere Secondary School. (Vice Principal , 1999-2005), Government College, Eric Moore, where she retired as a principal (2008)
After her retirement, she continued overseeing the administration of New State High School as the principal in charge till the day she was called to be with the Lord. (2009-2019.)

Eme met and got married to Dr. Inyang Effiong Ekpeyong Bassey at age 20. Her married life was blessed with four wonderful and loving children, three grandchildren and other children she took on as her own.

She was born into a Bible believing and God fearing family and worshipped at Mount Zion Light House Full Gospel Church with her husband and family till after his demise in 1998.

She later joined Mountain of Fire and Miracles-MFM Surulere andlater relocated to Mowe andworshipped at MFM, Asimolowo Parish till her last days.

Our Mrs. Bassey Senior as I fondly call her was a reserved and quiet woman but very warm at heart. She loved looking very nice and dolled up, always smiling and looking very radiant.
She cared for all equally irrespective of age, class, religion or gender. She loved being around her children and people. She was an encouragement to all always ready and willing to put you right. She never gave up on anyone.
