After Yakata, Dabenja Sets Sight On Stardom
The singer stated this in a chat with The Guardian in Lagos. Dabenja who started singing at eight years said music was his first love.
According to him, he decided to give it his all after following one of his friends to the studio.
“Music is my first love, writing songs or even just listening to music transports me into another world, a world free of pain and troubles. Music keeps me sane. It wasn’t a surprise to anyone when I decided to go into music full time,” he said.
A native of Akwa Ibom, Dabenja is a graduate of Business Administration from the University of East London. He is a serial entrepreneur and philanthropist with Dabenja Foundation. The Nigerian afro-pop musician owned a record label called The Mustard Seed music (TMS) Entertainment.
The singer, whose songs include ‘Select’, ‘Sugarbaby’, ‘Take Away’ and his 2019 hit single ‘Yakata’, performed at the ‘Afrikan Shrine’ during the annual Felabration Musical Concert in 2017.
Since he debuted in 2011 with Terere,” which topped charts in Malaysia, he has consistently dropped amazing songs that have earned him awards and recognition globally.
A brand ambassador for Pagepedia, Dabenja has also won the AEA award for West African/Central African Act of the Year in Malaysia. Thereafter, he collaborated with Terry G to release “All 4 Love” which quickly became fans’ favourite and won Best Collaboration at the African Entertainment Awards in Malaysia.
At a time when Afrobeats is slowly taking centre stage in the international music scene, African musicians are on the rise to dominance with a few talented artists such as Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, and Kiss Daniel playing a huge part.
Dabenja is one artist fast on the rise to join the boat of musicians, pushing Afrobeats genre to the next level.
His viral song released last year was nominated as one of the revelations of 2019 and he is one artist every music lover must watch out for in 2020.
