There is no doubting of the fact that Naija music and indeed African sound is writing a beautiful story in the global entertainment space, as this year’s edition of the African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) that held in Texas, United States on Sunday, October 8, had some Nigeria’s leading music acts like Davido, Wizkid, Yemi Alade and Burna Boy emerging as some of the biggest winners on the night.

Davido won the ‘Best Male West Africa’ artiste, hence retaining the award he won last year. Wizkid with his rave making Soco brought honour to Nigeria as he won ‘Video of the year’, while Yemi Alade bagged the award for the ‘Best Female West Africa’ and Burna Boy for ‘Best African Dancehall/Reggae Act’.

Other winners on the night in the over 20 categories award include Mastakraft, who walked home with the ‘Music Producer of the year’, even as Nasty C, was honoured with the ‘Best Male Southern Africa’, and DJ Ecool feted with ‘Best African DJ USA.’

Other side attraction of the event is the AFRIMMA Fashion Show, which gives designers a platform to exhibit their designs to a diverse audience and to attract a new culture of fashion in Dallas, Texas.

With this year’s theme as ‘Afro-Vogue’, each designer was required to showcase 10-pieces of his or her collection.

The star-studded event attracted guests from various cities throughout the United States as well as guests and honorees from various African countries.

The 2017 edition of the awards was an enormous success with artistes like Fally Ipupa, Falz, Tiwa Savage, Diamond Platinum, Composers Band, C4 Pedro, Ray Vanny, Stylz amongst others.

African music stars have continued their exploits spectacularly and they deserve all the accolades. Therefore, it is a thing of joy to see African sound crossing boundaries despite inherent challenges.

According to the awards organisers, celebrating the beauty of African music and culture is the foundation on which the brand AFRIMMA is built.

“Crossing boundaries with music is the mantra that gave birth to this award show and incorporating the music festival gives fans and audience a chance to enjoy their favourite acts the more with longer performance sets as seen at AFRIMMA 2017.

AFRIMMA 2018 was designed to be the best experience ever with a full weekend of activities lined up including welcome party, fashion show, meet and greet sessions, red carpet, award ceremony, music festival, after party and lots more.

The rich and glorious culture of motherland Africa in the language of the culture and in the colors of the continent on the international stage,” the organisers said in statement.

AFRIMMA is the sole award ceremony in the Diaspora that caters to all musical genres including but not limited to: Afrobeats, Assiko, Bongo, Decale, Funana, Genge, Highlife, Hiplife, Kwaito, Lingala and Soukous.
