A Party For Veteran Filmmaker, Tunde Kelani, At 68

It was time to celebrate Nigeria’s best-known filmmaker, Tunde Kelani last Saturday, as friends, colleagues and family members converged on the Rooftop of Goethe-Institut in Victoria Island, Lagos to mark the 68th birthday anniversary of the filmmaker, who is popularly known as TK.

It was time to celebrate Nigeria’s best-known filmmaker, Tunde Kelani last Saturday, as friends, colleagues and family members converged on the Rooftop of Goethe-Institut in Victoria Island, Lagos to mark the 68th birthday anniversary of the filmmaker, who is popularly known as TK.

Tagged, ‘TK @ 68 …of Culture and Purpose,’ the event was hosted by the trio of Jahman Anikulapo, Ropo Ewenla and Femi Odugbemi and it attracted the high and mighty in the academia, politics, business and the arts, including Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka; Vice Chancellor of Kwara State University, Prof Abdulrasheed Na’Allah; veteran actress, Taiwo Ajai-Lycett; Toun Kelani; Folake Doherty-Soyinka; the masked artiste, Lagbaja; Director of the Institut, Marc-Andre Schmachtel; Senator Ganiyu Solomon,; and ex-International, Segun Odegbami.

Others were Yeni Kuti; Secretary General of CORA, Toyin Akinoso; Theo Lawson; founder of Terra Kulture, Bolanle Austen-Peters; filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan; Kunle Ajibade; Prof Remi Raji; Dr. Sola Olorunyomi; and actress, Khabirat Kafidipe.

The evening featured live performances by Edaoto; the youth dance group, Footprints of David; Ajankoro; and the Crown Troupe of Africa.

There were goodwill messages from Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun, Prof Akin Adesokan; Dr. Tunde Adegbola; and founder of Ebony Live television, Mo Abudu.

High point of the evening was the official launch and unveiling of the logo of the Mainframe Film and Media Institute (MFMI) by Soyinka.

Kelani hinted that the Mainframe Film and Media Institute was to commence operations in May this year and those interested in further information on MFMI could visit- www.mainframeinstitute.com.
