Zamfara releases N340m for land compensation
The Zamfara authorities have commenced payment of compensation to owners of land allocated for the newly established Federal University, Gusau, by the former President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
Flagging-off the exercise at the palace of Emir of Kotor Koshi, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Abdullahi Shinkafi, said over N340million was released by the state government to the Ministry of Lands, Survey and Housing for the payment to owners of the affected lands and property.
He said six settlements that were under Bungudu and Gusau local councils, which are; Kwarai, Gidan Magaji, Kwanar Nadama, Sabon Gida gabas, Sabon gida yamma, Damba and Gidan Baidu; have been fully allocated to the University by the state. Shinkafi pointed out that a total number of 1,450 people are to be paid from the fund.
While attributing the delay to persistent economic crisis across the country, he appealed to the affected residents and landowners to consider the change of location as part of their contributions to the state and national development.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Magaji Garba, lauded the owners of the land for their patience and commended the state government for fulfilling its pledge to the affected individuals.
