‘Roads are not constructed on political sentiment’

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ephraim Inyangeyen has said that, the infrastructure development of the state was not politically motivated, but to enable governor Udom Emmanueal succeed on his industrialization programme.

According to him, without such infrastructure as roads across the state, investors may not be able to access areas where raw materials are found.He spoke in Uyo against the backdrop of insinuations that, the governor was favouring some senatorial districts against others in road constructions.He stressed that, the administration of governor Udom Emmanuel has not neglected Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district in terms development as being insinuated.

The commissioner assured on the completion of all ongoing projects in spite of the fact that elections was fast approaching.He told The Guardian that the governor belief was that infrastructure development drive industrialisation and therefore the huge investment of the state resources on road construction.

He recalled that, at the inception of the current administration, the governor had promised to spread development to all parts of the state and had particularly said those areas in Ikot Ekpene senatorial district like Ukanafun, Oruk Anam, Ini, Ikono, Obot Akara and even Abak, would be favoured.“In the last administration, the only road that was awarded in Oruk Anam was Ikot Ekan-Ibesit Okpokoro that terminates in the middle of nowhere. So, now the governor has awarded 23-kilometre road from Ikot

Akaidem through Ikot Okoro to Ikot Ibritam- Ikot Ibritam to Ikefe to Ikot Akpan Afaha, which has been in the federal budget for several years has also been awarded and it is ongoing, plus two road projects, thus giving Oruk Anam alone four ongoing projects.
