AMID claims that state-owned property has been encroached upon by developers, Rivers authorities have called on illegal occupants of government lands to vacate the lands or be evicted by the government at the appropriate time.

The Executive Director of Rivers Bureau of Public- Private Partnership (BPPP), Nimi Walson-Jack, who journalists after inspecting government project sites and estates being constructed under the Public-Private Partnership arrangement, regretted that several developers have encroached on government lands across the state, which has inhibited development.

According to him, all lands already encroached upon around development projects will be reclaimed and put to use for the benefit of the people.

He said that the State Government would implement the public-private partnership initiative for the purpose of strengthening the state’s economy and empowering the people.

Similarly, the Special Adviser to the Rivers State Governor on Special Projects, Mr. Cyril Dum Wite, said that the government would complete all the residential estates in partnership with the private sector to ensure that more people access quality accommodation in the state.

An inter-ministerial delegation of the Rivers State government led by the Executive Director, Bureau of Public Private Partnership (BPPP), Walson-Jack embarked on a fact-finding visit to some ongoing Public Private Partnership projects across the State.

The visiting delegation was taken round the RIVMETAL facility by the project’s facilitator, Mr. Joe Oyibo. He informed them that the facility had not been operated since its inception in 2008 due to lack of access to power from the national grid and assured them if the project was linked to the national grid, the plant would function optimally and contribute to the State’s revenue profile.

At the RIVTAF Golf Estate and Reef Court as well as E.G. Rivers Estates, the team commended the efforts of the development partners to actualize the State Government’s agenda in housing and assured them of Government’s continued support and participation as provided for in the respective partnership agreements. The Executive Director of the Bureau of Public Private Partnership frowned at the encroachment of government land by unknown persons and called on those developing properties within lands acquired by government and earmarked for development to stop all such developments forthwith.
