NIESV sets up mediation, reconciliation committee

The Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) has inaugurated a mediation and reconciliation committee that would wade into cases involving aggrieved members

The Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) has inaugurated a mediation and reconciliation committee that would wade into cases involving aggrieved members and those sanctioned.

NIESV President Sir Emmanuel Okas Wike, who inaugurated the committee, chaired by the 6th President, Alhaji Adetola Shote at the Lagos liaison office, said, the ceremony is part of his administration’s agenda, to open a window for reconciliation among members.

Wike disclosed that the committee has the mandate to advise on “how to promote and maintain unity amidst diverse perspectives of our members, particularly the manner in which we manage our politics as we jostle for positions within the Institution.

According to him, the aggrieved members will be given another opportunity to express themselves and return to the NIESV family. He said: “It is our intention to clear up misunderstandings, find out concerns, and reach a resolution.

“We cannot have a society or organization that is, or will be completely free of disagreements, but conscious and deliberate efforts must be made not to allow conflicts to destroy the fundamental cohesion of the society or organization.”

Other members of the committee are Ven. L. L. Eso, Mr. Joe Idudu, Mr. Emeka Eleh, Claire Chizea, Dogondaji Shehu, and Blessing Kalu.

He told the committee members, comprising past presidents and elders that history and posterity will remember them with joy and gratitude for their willingness to continue serving the institution; “when you ought to be resting from your years of toil, labour and service,” he added.
