NCF partners Nigerian firm on renewable energy education

As a means of enhancing environmental education,  the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) has entered into strategic  partnership with a firm to promote awareness drive for renewable energy in schools.

As a means of enhancing environmental education, the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) has entered into strategic  partnership with a firm to promote awareness drive for renewable energy in schools.

The partnership with Skangix Development Limited involves a Renewable Energy Essay Competition” amongst secondary school pupils in Lagos State Education District III, which comprises Eti-Osa, Epe, Ibeju-Lekki and Lagos Island local councils in Lagos state is valued at N6 million.

Speaking shortly after  the signing of  the Memorandum of Understandinng (MoU) with the  firm at NCF Secretariat Lekki on Friday, NCF Director  General, Adeniyi Karunwi said engaging young  minds believed to be  the future is important as Nigeria is a signatory to the Paris Agreement within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

According to him,  the initiative underscores NCF/SDL’s commitment to the environment and to the Sustainable Development Goals while recognizing the role of children in the sustainability agenda, which includes  Quality education, Gender equality, Affordable and clean energy, Sustainable cities and communities, Responsible consumption and production. Climate action and Partnerships for the goal.

He stressed that renewable energy such as sunlight, wind, waves and geothermal heat is naturally replenished and it  never runs out. “Renewable energy is an alternative option to fossil fuel because renewable resources are available to meet the needs of the people if properly harnessed,” he added.

The Essay Competition , which will run from February 14 – May 29, 2017 with  “Energy- Make it nature friendly as  the  theme”,  is opened to secondary schools that have active NCF Conservation Clubs in full time  education and is an on the spot essay writing  and all participants must use the approved booklet.
