Monarch pledges to recover FECA land

A paramount rule, the Deji of Akure Kingdom, Oba Aladelusi Aladetoyinbo has avowed maximum and unalloyed support to the Federal College of Agriculture Akure (FECA) in its bid to reclaim over 825 hectares of land taken over by land-grabbers. 

Oba Aladetoyinbo who received a delegation led by the institution’s Council Chairman, Chief Bayo Oyero to his palace, condemned the encroachment by some individuals on the Federal Government property. 

He stressed that it is the collective responsibility of indigenes of the state to mobilize s against any act that would threaten the survival of the leading agricultural institute in Sub-Sahara Africa. 

In recent years, the college’s 1,000 hectares landmass, which is less than 10 per cent of the total land of other neighbouring institutions, has been reduced from 1,000 hectares to 175 hectares by land-grabbers.  

The Guardian gathered that some members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and a traditional ruler in the community are alleged to be the perpetrators, while the latter is currently facing multi-million naira charges in the law courts

A traditional ruler is facing six count charges over destruction of FECA property worth N830 million at the Court of Appeal and for unlawful possession without Order and Writ of Possession. 

Deji, who had vowed to institute a legal action against the land-grabbers, condemned the actions of some persons in the community. He said Akure Kingdom would not allow some persons to destroy the survival of the institution. 

The paramount ruler, Oba Aladetoyinbo, reiterated that it was Akure Kingdom, which allocated land to FECA, adding that a fight to claim the land by an individual is an affront to the Deji’s throne. “We have to do everything in our capacity to ensure the growth and development of the college. I will forever support FECA,” he said, revealing that Akure Kingdom has mobilized support for the college.
