Lagos targets 360 new homes in Ikorodu scheme

An aggregate of 360 housing units comprising 30 blocks of buildings with 120 units each of 3 Bedrooms, 2 Bedrooms and 1 Bedroom would soon be added to the Lagos housing stocks.

The new addition is part of efforts to reduce the state’s housing shortages in 2020.

Lagos State Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Moruf Akinderu – Fatai, gave the cheering news while conducting a recent validation and inspection visit to the LAGSHOM Igbogbo Scheme 11B at Ikorodu local council.

He stressed that the new homes would be commissioned in the next few weeks.

According to him, the State Government has resolved to complete all housing schemes that were set aside by the previous administration in order to speedily bring succour to Lagosians by increasing the availability of decent accommodation for the increasing population of the state.

“Reducing the housing deficit and bringing more people on the homeownership ladder through the provision of affordable and quality homes are tasks that are germane to building a 21st-century economy.

“Hence, the administration of Mr Babajide Sanwoolu is frontally pursuing the goals of completing all the on-going housing schemes to ensure that befitting and decent accommodation is available to the ever-increasing population of the state,” he said.

Also, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Housing, Mr. Wasiu Akewusola affirmed that over 360 families are expected to move into the homes after the commissioning of the estate in a few weeks.

Akewusola, who expressed satisfaction with the ongoing works at the site, urged the contractors to keep up with a good job in order to deliver at the targeted date.

He disclosed that about 3500 homes in Sangotedo, Idale in Badagry, Odo Onasa/Ayandelu, Ibeshe, Egan-Igando, and Ajara would be completed from both government-owned schemes and joint ventures.

The LagsHom Igbogbo Housing scheme, which commenced in 2012 has a Central sewage treatment plant, water treatment plant, high-quality road network and Streetlights.

It is made up of 30 blocks of buildings with 120 units each of 3 Bedrooms, 2 Bedrooms and 1 Bedroom making a total of 360 units of family homes.
