Lagos redesigns Ilubrin housing estate scheme

After being abandoned for close to two years, the Lagos State Government has began moves to jump-start the Ilubrin Housing Scheme, following its redesigning and investors plan to inject private capitals into the project.

Conceived by the Lagos State Ministry of Housing through Lagos Home Ownership Mortgage Scheme (Lagos HOMS) in 2014, the Ilubrin Housing Scheme was seen as key to mitigating the rising housing deficits in the state as it was poised to deliver 1,254, two/three bedroom blocks of flats.
 
The project, which has Cyrou Builders as the main contractors, was conceptualized as one of the best things in Lagos real estate sector.

According to him, as soon as that is cleared, work will resume, as the government had not abandoned the project as being speculated in some quarters. In another few weeks, work will resume, he assured.

The initial design approved by the Lagos State Ministry of Housing, he said, was to deliver 1,254, two and three bedroom blocks of flats.

But the project has been transformed into a mixed used hub, which will create a ‘live, work, play’ environment.

On the three Lagos HOMS blocks near Otedola estate, the commissioner said they are in advanced state of completion, while some interested buyers have already committed money on the buildings.

He assured that contrary to the insinuation that the property was abandoned, the buildings will soon be handed over to the buyers.

Prince Lawal further assured government’s commitment towards partnering with private investors to provide secure, adequate and affordable housing to Lagosians in the new year.
