The Project Manager, Sachi Ramsunder, who spoke during a technical visit by members of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Ikeja Branch, explained that with enough commitments, the bulk of work remaining for the fly over bridge and the road network would be completed in about five weeks time.

The Oshodi-International Airport Road expansion project is designed as a 10-lane highway comprising, three express lanes and two-service lanes in each direction. It will also accommodate five pedestrian bridges, one U-turn and flyover bridges as well as walkways, among others.

The reconstruction is expected to end gridlocks and scale-up value of property in the area. Work on the project commenced on September 2017 and is to be delivered by May 2019.He said with the quality of construction equipment and materials mobilized for the road, it would be constructed to meet international standard.

The project manager told the engineers that the firm’s newly acquired ‘Wirtgen WR 250 Recycler’ for the project is capable of delivering 12,000 square metres performance maximum daily, adding that the “machine can mix two per cent bitumen, one per cent cement, 50 per cent stone base and 50 per cent reclaimed existing asphalt with water which makes road construction with the machine faster and better with a higher quality.

Expounding on the visit, NSE chairman, Ikeja branch, Olufunmilade Akingbagbohun said the association seeks to ensure that there is quality in terms of materials and machines used for the road project and the general infrastructural development in Lagos State.

“We appreciate what the state government is doing through the ministry of works and infrastructure and we have come to conduct an inspection of the site, look at quality control that has been put in place, the quality of materials and the machines and endorse the function of the road. From what we have seen, there is improvement on work done, on the project”.
