Group donates N74 million equipment to national park
Towards repositioning Nigeria as a tourism destination, the Africa Nature Investors (ANI) Foundation has donated equipment worth N74 million to Gashaka Gumti National Park.
Making the presentation recently in Abuja,the Spokesman of the Foundation, Mr Philip Iheanacho said the donation was meant to contribute to the country’s economic development.
He also added, they have invested millions in the training and equipping of rangers so that they can patrol the parks effectively to curb logging, poaching and other illegal activities.
The spokesman further said they have engaged internationally renowned rangers training specialists to carry out screening process on 150 officers working in Gashaka Gumti National Park.
Receiving the items, the Minister of Environment, Dr. Mohammad Abubakar thanked the foundation for the kind gesture, adding, this would imprfove infrastructure and make the parks global tourist haven.
Also, the Conservator General of National Park Service, Dr. Ibrahim Goni appreciated the gesture, which according to him, would fast track tourism as well as use the equipment to manage flora and fauna in this part of the world.
