Government to begin work on Yenagoa federal secretariat building

To ensure inclusion through infrastructural spread in all parts of the country, the Federal Government has revealed plans to commence works on its secretariat building in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.

Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, disclosed this, when a delegation of Coalition of South -South Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, visited him in Abuja.He reiterated that President Muhammadu Buhari would not neglect any section, especially, in terms of housing and road projects, as there were ongoing federal government projects across the six geo-political zones.
 
The Minister explained that a lot of economic activities had sprung up in communities as a result of road constructions and rehabilitations, adding that people are now engaged and empowered economically.On the East-West Road, Fashola stated that it was not the responsibility of his Ministry but that of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs,  noting that the road was under construction.
 
“The Federal Government had captured many roads in the South-South Geopolitical zone under the Infrastructure Development Funds. Our responsibility is only on the Federal highways.”According to Fashola, peace and stability in the South-South are critical to our work, and we have ongoing projects in the region as well as some intervention projects in universities.
 
The Minister urged the Coalition to identify and work with legally registered cooperative societies in the region in order to facilitate partnership to meet the housing needs of the people.On his part, Minister of State, Abubakar Aliyu commended the Coalition for its intention to collaborate with the Ministry to address challenges of infrastructure in the South –South geo- political zone.Earlier, the president of Coalition of South –South Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, Chief Emma Avworo, sought the Ministry’s support in addressing infrastructural challenges in the zone.
