‘Forestry ordinances, edicts are not enforced’

The Director General of National Park Services, NPS, Ibrahim Goni has expressed dismay over the way and manner forestry ordinances and edicts are not enforced in the country.
 
Goni told The Guardian in Abuja that lack of implementation of these edicts made people to carry out hunting animal in games and grazing reserves, and other places, to use during festive season.He decried the illegal killing of our heritage such as elephants, currently going on in Kebbi and Niger states, adding that in time to come the country would not have these animals.
 
“We have decided to go ahead for the enforcement of paramilitary scheme. National park services have also worked towards diversification of our country’s economic.”
 
According to him, we’ve signed memorandum of understanding, MOU with African Investor Nature, to assist the NPS with technical to patrol our national parks and other assets.He added that they have evolved measures and methods aimed at monitoring herdsmen and farmers conflict to reduce it to barest minimum in country.
 
Explaining further, the director general added that henceforth their migration would be monitored so that they don not encroach people farms as well as create harmonious relationship. He however, regretted that people are now building estates, road networks, factories, schools, colleges, and others structures on grazing routes and national heritage.
 
“In terms of revenue generation, we’ve acquired more utility vehicles, and it has made us to increase from N25 million in 2017 toN32 million in 2018. By 2019, we expect more for the government”, he added.
