The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has urged indigenous firms in the country to deplore expertise of its members in their operations. The association noted that its members are core professionals who could compete favourably in any environment hence; firms should give them recognition in their staffing system.

NSE Chairman, Apapa Branch, Mr. Sunny Ejeje gave the charge when he led members of the association to Cometstar Manufacturing Company in Agbara, Lagos.

He revealed that, the major challenge of Nigerian engineers is that people don’t trust their capabilities in managing factories. He noted that, except for few instances; indigenous engineers are not allowed to handle anything that has to do with engineering. He commended the management of Cometstar for its 100 per cent indigenous staff policy, saying it is a good omen for Nigerian engineers.

According to him, employing indigenous engineers would add value to manufacturers. The General Manager, Cometstar manufacturing company, Mr. Peter Igwehe explained that at every stage of production, there is a quality control personnel to ensure that their products are reliable and durable”.
