‘Federal government’s N1.5b 24-unit condominium in Abia on course’

The Federal Government has explained that the delay in actualizing the 25 housing in Condominium project in Amaisii, Obingwa Local Government Area was due to delay in acquiring the land and paucity of funds.

The project is progressing and 18 per cent of the cost has already been released for its execution by the government.

The Team Leader, National Housing Programme in Abia State, Adebola Ladeinde, an architect who made this known to journalists during inspection tour of the project site last week, said the essence of this federal government, being replicated in other states is in the bid to provide and deliver low income and medium income housing to Nigerians.

Commending President Muhammadu Buhari for releasing the funds to facilitate execution of the project in Abia State, Ladeinde attributed the seeming slow speed in executing the project in the state unlike in some other states, to the delay in acquiring the land.

According to him, foundation laying is the most tedious aspect of every construction project adding that the project which has attained 20 percent completion would be completed  within the next nine months.

“As far as this project is concerned, funding has never been a problem. The federal government has been providing us with funds as at when due hence work progresses on it. Once we get the foundation right, you don’t have much to worry about so, I could say right now, we have achieved like 20 per cent and as you can see, one of the contractors is here  working”

In his remark, the Contractor and chief executive officer, James West Africa Limited, Geoff Onyejegbu said he does not have any challenge now because the execution is progressing as programmed recalling however , that initially, the project faced some challenges of land acquisition has beensurmounted. 

He said that the federal government is doing very well in the funding adding that his contract was for three condominium, each containing 24 flats of mixed development of one bedroom flat, two bedroom and three bedroom flats which sums up to 72 for phase one. 

According to the Contractor, the project would ameliorate housing challenges in Nigeria and Abia State in particular and commended the host community for creating a serene and relative security that enables the smooth project execution.
