Experts meet in Lagos for building materials, technology summit

Stakeholders in the built environment will gather in Lagos for the 4th edition of international construction, building materials technology expo.

The exhibition organised by Elan expo group later in the month, will bring together professional bodies in the built sector. Expected at the forum include, members of the Nigeria Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE), Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Association of Professional Women Engineers (APWEN), Nigeria Institution of Surveyors (NIS), American Society for Heating, Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON), the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, the Nigeria Institution of Building (NIOB), NACCIMA, Association of Consulting Architect Nigeria(ACAN) and others.

The Chief Executive Officer, Build Expo, Mr. Jude Chime who spoke to The Guardian stated that exhibitors are expected from Turkey, Australia, Poland, China, Mexico, Spain, Egypt, Germany, India and Singapore.

According to him, the summit will advance the slow state of technological development in the Nigeria and boost the skills of professional bodies in the sector.

Speakers will include, the former chairman of Nigerian Institute of Architecture, Ladipo Lewis, the Chief Executive Officer of CmDesign Atelier, Tosin Oshinowo and the Managing Director of SAOTA Architect, Greg Truen will speak on “Embracing a collaborative approach through technology to adopt digital distruption; case study of the falling waters, digital technology, civil re-engineering and architecture meeting the 21st century standard and improving efficiencies of projects planning with integrated technology solutions that empower all parties in the building process.

The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat will give the keynote speech on theme of the summit, “The Role of technology in value engineering in the construction industry” while the National Chairman, Nigeria Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE), Umar Aishatu Aliyu and President of the Association of Consulting Architects in Nigeria, Mr Mansur Ahmadu Kurfi will also attend to present speeches.
