Expert seeks creation of construction school in Taraba

To build up expertise for the construction sector, the Commercial officer, AFEX Commodities Exchange Abuja, Zanau Maikasuwa, has advocated for the establishment of a building and construction training school in Taraba state.

He spoke to The Guardian on the benefits of the Mambilla Power Project in the state.

According to him, the commencement of works on the project will trigger civil engineering jobs and other engineering related jobs, which are skilled intensive.

He said: “ To prevent other people from other parts of the world from taking away jobs that the youths are meant to benefit from” there is the need for the governor to set up a Building and Construction Training School, where youths from Taraba state shall receive world class training to qualify as world class builders and construction workers.

“If established, we believed that graduates from the training school “shall not only be useful to the Mambilla power project alone but shall be available for various construction projects within and outside the states. With the latest review of the Mambilla power project which cost was estimated to $5.732 billion, banks, as made known by him “ will soon start relocating to the Mambilla to help in handling the huge cash transactions that will be happening there would be skilled and unskilled laborers who will troupe in from all nooks and crannies of the world to the Mambilla”, he sadded.

Maikasuwa urged the government, to put in place regulations and a Mambilla city master plan to avoid indiscriminate constructions that will destroy the beauty of the plateau adding that “It will also enable government to track revenues that soon start trickling in.”

Stressing that the Mambilla power project will bring many opportunities to the state, he called for the repositioning the state through critical and visionary thinking.
