Engineers plan project competition in tertiary schools

MOVED to encourage engineering education, members of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Victoria Island branch, Lagos have concluded plans to organize a project competition among final year students in some selected tertiary institutions.

MOVED to encourage engineering education, members of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Victoria Island branch, Lagos have concluded plans to organize a project competition among final year students in some selected tertiary institutions.

The proposed competition is expected to be supported, especially most outstanding projects by some companies. The branch will also sustain its initiatives to support and encourage study of science and technical education in some secondary schools. The programme has been awarding prize to best students in sciences and technical subjects.

Victoria Island branch Chairman, Mr. Babatunde Abdulrasheed Moyosore who made the revelation at his investiture ceremony as the fifth chairman of the branch, held at the Oriental Hotels, said that his tenure will focus on professionalism, human capital development and community services to improve the effectiveness of the society.

According to Mr. Moyosore, “the highly competitive market place requires highly skilled and competent personnel and we must prepare our members to secure a place in the market. The events of the last few years are enough testimony to the fact that only the skilled and competent ones can survive the challenges. We hope to improve on our human capital development programmes through technical sessions, industrial tours and trainings.

“As a major stakeholder in the, we belief our contribution in addressing various challenges is important. “We plan to include higher institution in our efforts of instituting Immediate past chairman of the branch, Mr. Nnamdi Chiegbu noted that the installation demonstrates the stability in the branch, “we have witnessed five installations without rancor and this shows the personalities we have. There is a popular saying that a leader does not succeed until he succeed in making his successor successful, therefore, I charge you with the responsibility to keep the flag flying especially in the area of group dynamics competition.

“Imbibe the current wave of accountability and transparency in the country, our society is moving away from corruption and flamboyancy, we must bring in accountability in everything we do. As leaders, our acts should epitomize what we expect from others; we should also build on existing best practices and uphold ethics of the society.”

While deputy President of the branch, Mr. Kunle Mokolo is in address described the event as a witness in change in leadership. “It is an opportunity to serve the people using God given talent to harness them to the value of the society. I hope Moyosore is well positioned to take up these charge for the good of the society. In our profession, intellectual property is very important and we should all stand in dignity as engineers.”
