Delta government spends N12b on secretariat complex as lawmaker extols NDDC on road projects

Poised to ensure efficiency in service delivery, Delta State Government is spending N12b on the construction of its new secretariat complex in Asaba.

Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, who disclosed this while inspecting works in the complex, said all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) would be quartered within the premises upon completion.

According to him, over N12b is being spent on the construction which will upon completion house 27 MDAs to ensure development, management and ease of communication between government agencies.

The governor expressed joy that the contractors have assured to deliver the project within two years,” the Governor said, adding,.“The Secretariat when completed will be a complex of 6 floors and as you can see, 90 per cent of the workers at the site are sourced locally.“We are carrying out inspection of projects because we are committed to ensuring that projects are delivered to specifications and will stand the test of time”, he said.

The Governor, who also inspected construction other roads in the state, expressed confidence at the level of work done at the sites.Meanwhile, a former member of the House of Representatives, Ned Nwoko has commended the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for coming to the rescue of the several communities living along Onicha-Ugbo/Ugboko axis of the Abuja-Asaba-Onitsha highway through the rehabilitation of the road.

Nwoko, a native of Idumuje Ugboko told newsmen that the economic and social lives of residents were adversely affected when the road was very bad.
He said; “The failed portions which now wore new look stretched over two kilometers became very deplorable at the peak of last year’s rainy season, leading to its abandonment by motorists who hitherto plied it”.Nwoko noted that the rehabilitation of the failed portion was a big relief not only to communities within the axis but the entire road users.
