Council on environment meeting begins today

The meeting of the National Council on Environment will begin today in Lafia, Nasarawa State.The Council in session, among other things, would brainstorm on global climate change and clean energy as it affects Nigeria and the sub-region. Apart from this, topical issues would be handled during the five-day programme.
The Nasawara State Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, is scheduled to declared open the council which would feature technical committee meeting, summit of Permanent Secretaries and council discussions and deliberations.
The Director of Press in the Ministry of Environment, Ishaku A. Yusuf, told The Guardian that all is set for council on Environment and participants would be drawn from 36 states and FCT to tackle issues related to environmental sustainability.
“Climate change is one of the most complex issues of our time. It has elicited the most ideologically contentious discourse and analyses across the political spectrum within the hallowed halls of most mature or developed democracies.”
It was gathered this is 11th National Council on Environment which will focus on Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs and at end, it would produce a national road map to drive programmes and projects for climate change in the country,
“A change of climate is attributed directly or indirectly to human activity that changes the composition of the global atmosphere in addition to natural climate inconsistency observed over comparable time period.”
However, the impact of climate change presents a new hurdle in the fight against extreme poverty and diseases, low carbon emission, green house gases, erosion, drought and desertification, conservation of wildlife and forest cover.
