THE completion of the Nkpor-Amawbia old road by the Anambra State Government has resonated a fresh controversy, with the former Governor, Mr. Peter Obi claiming that the road awarded to CCC Construction Company in 2008 by his administration was completed long before Gov. Willie Obiano took over.

In statement, the Media Assistant to the former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Valentine Obienyem said, “The clarification became necessary because of avalanche of calls and text messages.”

Obiano while commissioning the road in Idemili North Local Government Area, said: “I have to make it clear that this road was started by my predecessor in 2008 and was done up to 10 kilometers. My administration has completed the road with end-to-end drainage and clear road signs and markings as well as the street-lighting which will soon be completed.”

“My administration started and completed this road, which provides access to an important facility; I want to assure Ndi Anambra that despite paucity of funds, we have not abandoned any road awarded by my predecessor. This is in line with my promise of “3 Cs”: to complete, to commission, and commence new projects.”

In the release, Obienyem submitted, “All Obiano added to the road was the marking”. Obienyem said that the only problem Obi did not tackle on that stretch of road was the flooding problem at Ogidi. “If Awka is desirous of contributing anything to the road, they should tackle the Ogidi flood”, Obienyem said.
