Cement plant in Calabar begins production October

Emerging from a successful hike in the cost of its cement to about 40 per cent, one of the leaders in the building materials industry, Lafarge-Holcim has announced plans to commence production activities in October.

Site Manager, Aidan Wynne, who made this known during a media tour disclosed that the Line II within Mfamosing Cement Plant in Akamkpa local government in Cross River Line II would produce 6250 metric tons per day and 2.5metric tons per year.

He said the plant has 1,024 workers, comprising 539 expatriates and 485 Nigerian staff at the factory.

Earlier, the Plant Manager, Thierry Terriere, said the company has the most advanced technology and ready to work with its host community.

He stressed that the company took it upon itself that each community have at least one project as a form of it cooperate social responsibility in terms of water, health and schools infrastructures.

Terriere explained that the company has also provided employment to 3,000 people who are now working to put up their own business, adding that the reason for doing it is to ensure steadiness of operation.

He said: “I went into all of the villages and met all them, and we started with the projects of providing boreholes, school blocks, health care and safety.”
