The annual specialised exposition on the building, construction and infrastructural development – Archbuilt, promoted by the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) will begin in Abuja today.

The Director Archibuilt Development Services Limited (ADSL) , Umaru Karaye who disclosed this in Abuja observed that blamed the frequent building collapse in the country on incompetent contractors, use of uncertified building materials and wrong designs .

He argued that collapse of buildings had continued unabated due to the inability of government to strictly sanction the culprits.

Karaye noted that Archbuilt 2017 would highlight efforts of the professionals, indigenous manufacturers, retailers and the regulators to address issues in the development and construction sector. It will also feature discussions on housing finance, development of construction technology in Nigeria as well requirements to achieve green rating for materials and buildings.

According to him, Archibuilt, which is an exposition of building materials and construction technology, has ‘promoting the development of building materials and services for the Nigerian market’ as its theme for this year.

He noted that buildings contribute up to 40 per cent of the green house gases that cause global warming and stressed the need to move to green architecture.
