Akinwole becomes NIEEE chairman

The Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (NIEEE) has elected Emmanuel Olulere Akinwole as its 17th chairman.

Akinwole, an engineer, who was decorated during an investiture programme in Lagos, pledged to partner with Ministries Departments and Agencies in power and communications to establish and renew existing codes and standards for increased productivity, spearhead innovations in efficient power distribution and communication solutions as well as manpower and training development.

He said: “NIEEE is ready to assist the industry (power and communications) to improve efficiency through organization of independent, reliable and open competition with commensurate rewards for performance on regular basis.”

Akinwole stated that the institution has existed through structured mentorship, regular conferences and programmes, scholarly education, research and training, facility design and industrial manufacturing as well as technical collaborations with individuals and organisations on projects.

In a paper titled: “Development of Professional Practice as a Sustainable Business”, Mr. Ibikunle Ogunbayo, an engineer, listed what can be done in the development of the nation and in particular, the role that engineers should play in building viable and sustainable professional businesses.

Ogunbayo observed that as an engineer, it is better to create a niche market than to be a jack of all trade, “set your expectations and objectives with a view to being better than anyone in the world”.
