Former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the ruling All Progressive Party, (APC) of encouraging vote buying and selling by pauperising the people through their negative polices. Lamido spoke yesterday at the secretariat of the PDP in Lokoja while addressing delegates in continuation of his nationwide tour to drum support for his presidential ambition. He said the culture of vote buying gained popularity because APC has been able to weaponise poverty and they have taken away the honour and pride of the people.

“You know when you are hungry you will lose your self esteem and dignity. They have instituted poverty and in trying to get power they are using money to buy the pauperised people. “So it is up to us to say there are some things we cannot tolerate and we shouldn’t do them and I am getting very worried. Vote buying is a character of our nation, which has been promoted by the APC.”

He, however, commended the acting President over the way he handled the DSS siege on the National Assembly. “He demonstrated leadership because if something happened, you are not aware and by the time you know, you have to take action.

“Leadership is a serious thing when you simply cannot act after knowing that mistakes have been done, you should not hesitate to resign.“Osibanjo after finding out said he is under my office and something must be seen to be done right. If my subordinate has perpetrated wrong doing behind me and I discover I will deal decisively with the defaulter.”

The former minister of Foreign Affairs said that after almost four years in power, APC cannot honestly and confidently say that they have improved the lives of ordinary Nigerians.Instead, he said, APC has made it a policy to institute poverty and that is why people are ready to sell their votes for a pittance. He also said that lack of proper supervision was also responsible for poor conduct of elections.

He described Nigeria as the father of other African nations adding that whatever happens in the country will impact positively or negatively on other countries and that is why we need a government with positive ideology and not a government without ideology to move the country forward. He also described PDP as the only party with history, which had remained stuck with its positive ideology, putting human being first in implementing its programmes in the 16 years it ruled the country.
