Useni, PDP close case against APC at tribunal

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its 2019 governorship candidate in Plateau State in, Senator Jeremiah Useni have closed their case against the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, Governor Simon Lalong at the tribunal in Jos.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its 2019 governorship candidate in Plateau State in, Senator Jeremiah Useni have closed their case against the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, Governor Simon Lalong at the tribunal in Jos.
   
The closure now gives room for the first and second respondents, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Lalong, to present their witnesses for cross-examination by the petitioners.
   
Useni and PDP had gone to the election petitions tribunal to challenge the declaration of Lalong as winner by the INEC.The petitioners have so far presented over 300 documents to the tribunal in addition to over 70 witnesses testifying.
    
At the tribunal’s sitting yesterday, lead counsel to the petitioners, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN) presented the last set of documents and exhibits, which the petitioners hoped to rely on to advance their case.
   
The documents submitted were in respect of result sheets and voters’ register of Naraguta ‘B’ Ward in Jos North Local Government Area. Shortly after admitting the documents, Head of Department (HOD), Operations and Logistics, INEC, Jos office, Mr. Yagba S. Kundu, mounted the witness box for cross-examination. Counsel to INEC and Lalong respondents Mr. Pius Akubo (SAN) and Mr. Olusola Oke (SAN) led the cross-examination. The tribunal fixed July 25, 2019 to reconvene.
