Remove corrupt leaders at elections, says Osinbajo

ALL Progressives Congress (APC) vice presidential candidate, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has charged the electorate to vote out corrupt leaders and embrace positive changes in the country in the rescheduled elections for March and April.

  He made the call at a town hall meeting at Mercy Hall, Ketu in Lagos, organised by Friends of Prof. Osinbajo. 

  The meeting attracted a huge turnout of stakeholders, comprising of traditional chiefs, APC party supporters, market people and leaders, special and disabled people, and Igbo and Arewa groups in the area. 

  Osinbajo noted that the forthcoming elections would liberate the electorate from darkness, corruption, unemployment, hunger, poverty, sickness and unwarranted deaths. 

  “It (Elections) will give them freedom to choose credible and selfless leaders, who will provide polices and programmes that will benefit the masses,” he said.

  He urged the people to check the track records or scorecards of any leaders of their choice before they cast the votes, adding that they should vote wisely.

  Osinbajo said they should not to be deceived by political propaganda that the APC presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, wants to turn Nigeria into an Islamic country, explaining that the General has a lot of Christians in the cabinet in his past administration. 

  “Even now, I, Osibanjo, is his vice presidential candidate and I’m a Christian, too,” he said. 

  “He (Buhari) is a man with no discrimination trait but believes in freedom of worship/religion.”

  Osinbajo reiterated the Buhari/Osinbajo campaign commitment to the party’s manifesto, emphasising on the core areas such as education, massive housing scheme, social security, employment, power/energy and health care services. 

  Stressing that these programmes would be felt in a large scale across the country, he maintained that free education and social welfare systems “have been practised in APC states like Ekiti and Osun.”

  Earlier, Prof. Osinbajo was a special guest at the Redeemed Christian Church (Abundant Life Model Assembly Love), Ikosi, Ketu, where he ministered to members of the church and had a thanksgiving service.

  Senator Oloruninmbe Mammora, the APC deputy director-general for the Buhari/Osinbajo Campaign, disclosed that his duty was to market the Buhari/Osinbajo ticket or brand. 

  He charged the people to vote for these candidates and get the desired change and results. 

  He urged them to take advantage of small forums or town hall meetings, to meet the political party leaders and interact with grassroots, “tell them of the party policies and programmes and even listen to the people’s plights or give account of their stewardship while they are going into office or still in office.” 

  “It (town hall meeting) is also an opportunity to talk to leaders one-on-one and air the people’s views or plights than in the large rally grounds,” Mammora said.

  In her speech, Chief Kemi Nelson, APC’s deputy-director for Women Mobilisation for Buhari/Osinbajo Campaign, educated the gathering on how to cast votes, using the right party logo without blotting the ballot papers.

  She cautioned them to be very careful during the voting process, “so as not to be disqualified for voting for two political parties, as a result of blots from the ballot papers or carelessness.”
