The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) has fixed February 17, 2018 for local council poll.

The PLASIEC Chairman, Fabian Ntung, gave the notice in an advertorial. According to him, the commission fixed the election in pursuant to and in compliance with Part IV, Sections 16 (1) and 22 (1) of the LASIEC law of August 2017.

He said it also followed Section 197 of the third schedule of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

The state government had delayed the conduct of the council poll, by renewing the appointments of the caretaker committee, after the dissolution of the elected executives in the 17 councils.

The dissolved council executives had gone to court to seek redress and got a judgment in their favour, when the Federal High Court declared the dissolution as unwarranted and illegal.
