PDP sacks Anambra caretaker committees

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dissolved its caretaker committees in Anambra State.

The party took the decision after a meeting between the Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee (NCC) and stakeholders of the party in the state.

A communiqué by the party’s spokesman, Dayo Adeyeye, stated: “The NCC in the exercise of its powers under Section 31, (2)(E) dissolved all the existing factional executive committees of the party in the state.

“The NCC will in due course, appoint a caretaker committee to run the affairs of the party, pending when it would be auspicious to elect new executive committees at all levels.

“To this end, all party stakeholders, leaders and members are enjoined to bury all their differences and join hands together in unity towards the victory of the party in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.”

Earlier, the National Secretary of the party, Ben Obi, while welcoming the stakeholders said: “Anambra State governorship election is the first litmus test for the PDP to display its unity and togetherness before Nigerians. It is the first major event of the party after the Supreme Court judgment.”

The statement added a united PDP defeated the All Progressives Congress in Osun State prior to the judgment.

The former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, who was also part of the meeting said: “We had discussion on how we can be part of the efforts to get the PDP to effectively play its role as an opposition party to help build a better Nigeria.”

According to a governorship aspirant, Dr. Alex Obiogbolu: “We resolved to win the governorship election. The party reiterated its determination to win the election, following the election we won in Osun State.

“In one accord, we agreed that we must win that election. Although, we had crises in Anambra, one unique thing is that the meeting was short and productive and without much rancour as it used to be. The party’s chance is bright and I know that with what has come out of the meeting, the party would get victory.”

Another aspirant, Oseloka Obazee said the meeting gave them a clear guidance on the party’s direction. We agreed on the modalities towards making sure that by November 18, the party would win the governorship election.

Obazee expressed confidence in the ability of the present leadership to deliver the party.
