PDP chieftain queries Maku over polls suit
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Nasarawa State has described the decision of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), governorship candidate, Mr. Labaran Maku to challenge the victory of Governor Tanko Al Makura at the tribunal as the manifestation of a bad loser.
A chieftain of the party in the state, Alhaji Sidi Ndaji, maintained that Governor Tanko Al-Makura won the April 11, 2015, elections overwhelmingly.
He also said challenging Al-Makura’s election at the tribunal amounts to waste of time and resources, as it was clear that the APC, won clearly in majority of the local government areas.
Speaking with journalists, Ndaji, who was Zonal Coordinating Secretary of the PDP in Southern senatorial district of the state during the last elections, said Al-Makura won his election free and fair.
He said: “We are baffled that the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, and its gubernatorial candidate, Mr. Maku, went to court to challenge the victory of the governor when it was obvious to observers and all citizens of the state that Governor Al Makura won his election overwhelmingly.
The PDP decided to respect the wishes and choice of the people because doing otherwise would amount to questioning the collective resolve of the people which is not only disrespectful but inimical to the growth of democracy in the state and Nigeria.” Maku, while rejecting the result, said he was a victim of electoral fraud and had gone to the election tribunal.
He accused the APC, INEC officials and security agencies of collusion and widespread electoral manipulation. He also said the governorship election was characterised by widespread reports of ballot theft and irregularities in government quarters.
