Osoba hopeful of economic recovery, urges internal party’s democracy
Former Ogun State Governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba, has expressed optimism that the country’s economy would recover and appealed to Nigerians to be a little bit patient.
He also called on political parties to take urgent steps to ensure internal democracy, saying: “Only the party that does serious internal democracy will the electorate accept.”
Besides, the two-time governor disclosed that the ruling party in the state, All Progressives Congress (APC), had not zoned the governorship slot to any area, adding that all interests would be opened to negotiation, including those that recently defected to the party.
Osoba, an APC chieftain, spoke yesterday while addressing his party loyalists at his GRA, Abeokuta private residence.
He was of the view that Nigerians are now politically matured hence in the forthcoming elections, they would not vote for parties like it was the situation in the past but would vote for any candidate that they believe has the capability of providing good governance, his or her political affiliation notwithstanding.
His words: “People will look at all the candidates and the person they believe has the capacity to revive the economy will be the one they will vote for irrespective of his or her party. All they will look at is the capability of the candidate. They will look for someone that can bring about a change to the economy and the country entirely.”
Osoba, who debunked the claim that the ruling APC in the state has zoned the governorship seat to a particular zone, said: “There is nothing like zoning of office. In the past, we gave opportunity to anyone to aspire, but we always used maturity to settle it among us but it is not the rule.”
