Olujimi insists on leadership of Ekiti PDP

The Senate Minority Leader, Biodun Olujimi, has described as laughable the purported Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ‘state caucus’ meeting held in Ado Ekiti where the group allegedly declared backing for former governor, Ayodele Fayose as leader.

Special Assistant on Public Communication to the Senate Minority Leader, Chief Sanya Atofarati, while reacting to the caucus meeting, said it lacked locus standi, claiming it is unknown to the constitution of the PDP.

“I even learnt they earlier had a meeting at Afao Ekiti where they were given a script and were mandated on what to say. In a saner clime, the Oguntuase-led state executives that were accused of misappropriation could not have been allowed to preside as chairman of the purported meeting.”

Atofarati said those who thought Olujimi was out to muscle their paymaster should be properly guided by the provisions of Section 30 subsection (d) and Section 31 subsection (e) of the PDP Constitution to know who and who is a member of the national caucus and national executive council.

“For instance, a few months ago when the Senate President, Bukola Saraki decamped to PDP, he was announced the national leader of the party. “Whereas, the likes of the former President Goodluck Jonathan, his vice Alhaji Namadi Sambo, the Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu who are still members of the PDP all respected the provisions of the Constitution which bestowed the leadership of the party on Saraki being the highest ranking officer of the party. So, debating Ekiti as peculiar issue is needless.

“The point here is that the former governor is an elder statesman and a ceremonial leader, especially in PDP, but unfortunately that does not translate to the party leadership as clearly stated in the sections of the party’s constitution cited above.”
