MUP dissociates Umar from new political group, says he was not consulted

Officials of Movement for Unity and Progress (MUP) have dissociated former Kaduna State Governor, Col. Abubakar Dangiwa Umar (rtd.), from the new political group, which reportedly listed his name as a member.

Officials of Movement for Unity and Progress  (MUP) have dissociated former Kaduna State Governor, Col. Abubakar Dangiwa Umar (rtd.), from the new political group, which reportedly listed his name as a member.

A statement issued by a member of the MUP, Chris Yabo Ephraim, in Kaduna, yesterday, said Umar did not attend the group’s meeting in Lagos, adding that the former governor wished he was consulted before his name was published as a member of the new group.

The statement read: “A group under the auspices of Select National Leaders of Conscience met between Wednesday, May 27 and Friday, June 12, this year, and issued a communiqué with the name of Col. Abubakar Dangiwa Umar, as one of the attendees and a member.

“Although Umar was made aware of attempts to invite him to the meeting, such attempts were unsuccessful. He, therefore, did not attend the meeting or was he made aware of his membership.

“Umar does not wish to deny the group, whose membership include persons he holds in high esteem. He, however, wished he was consulted before the publication that included his name.”
