MOSOP flays Amaechi’s alleged opposition to Abe’s governorship ambition

The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has flayed alleged attempts by Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi to stop the governorship ambition of Senator Magnus Abe.

Spokespersons for the MOSOP elders Bari-ara Kpalap, declared this yesterday in Port Harcourt.

He accused Amaechi of plotting to impose a riverine person as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State.

He warned that the four local councils in Ogoni would reject the APC at the polls, if the minister does not dump his plan.

Kpalap disclosed that it was agreed at a meeting in the Government House in 2014, that an Ogoni should be supported for governorship after the 2015 elections.

He said the meeting followed the failure of the APC to allow an Ogoni indigene to contest the 2015 governorship poll, which, he alleged, was spearheaded by Amaechi.

He said: “Having earlier agreed to, and reassured Ogoni leaders at the meeting of his support for the Ogoni governorship drive, the U-turn demonstrates crass double-standard and unreliability. It is also a devious stab to pitch the Ogoni against our riverine brothers”

The spokesman added that Abe would emerge the party’s candidate, if it were the will of God.

Meanwhile, a chieftain of the APC in Imo State, Jerry Chukwueke, at the weekend, declared his interest to contest the 2019 governorship position in the state.

He addressed journalists in his ancestral home at Awaka in Owerri North Local Council Area, on his agenda: “Road map from poverty to prosperity.”

Chukwueke, who is the Chairman of Germaine Group, said only experienced people should be allowed to rule the state.

Having resigned from the APC, he said he would seek a servant-leadership regime in a new party to be disclosed soon, which is collegiate, and could provide checks and balances.

While canvassing the entrenchment of rule and order, he declared that Imo State should never again be privatised, but become a private sector-driven governance.

In a related development, a former governor of Ekiti State, Segun Oni, has denied having any link with the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

He said he would not dump the APC, even if he loses at the primaries in April.

He dismissed allegation that he was having affinity with the SDP, alongside professors Jerry Gana, and Tunde Adeniran.
