Maku tasks politicians, INEC on peaceful, credible elections
Former Minister of Information, Chief Labaran Maku has urged politicians not to create chances for violence, as no political office is worth the life of any person.
Maku, who is the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), gave the charge on Friday during the signing of a peace pact at the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) office in Lafia. He said: “As a former minister and Supervising Minister of Defence, election violence shows perceived lack of neutrality of the electoral umpire and desperation of politicians.”
“If because of our political pursuit people are killed, who are we going to lead when we become the president or governor”?“We must be guided by good conscience knowing full well that one day, we are all going to stand before God and be judged based on our deeds.”
He admonished INEC to show a high sense of neutrality before and during elections, so as to create a level playing ground. Responding, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Uthman Ajidagba, thanked Maku for signing peace pact. Ajidagba assured that 2019 elections would be different from others, because of the device deployed to track rigging.
