Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Caretaker Committee Chairman, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, has urged the Federal Government to harmonise the various recommendations by past governments on ways to restructure the country and demand immediate action by National Assembly.

Makarfi, explained that unless government takes the bull by the horns and implement the reports of past political conferences’ recommendations on the restructuring of Nigeria, there would be various agitations coming from Nigerians that may threaten national unity.

Faulting the recent decision by the All Progressives Congress (APC) government that it has set up a committee to look into the issue of restructuring, Makarfi pointed out that “after several weeks of saying that they are against restructuring and now setting up a committee to look into it, which one should Nigerians believe.”

The PDP chieftain noted that the issue of restructuring Nigeria cannot be swept under the carpet, stressing: “I want to remind you that we were the first to hold a press conference in upholding the issue of restructuring. We have observed that restructuring means different things to different people.

“Some have observed that they are looking for political restructuring, some are looking for financial and economic restructuring; and nobody is even talking about institutional restructuring, because if the institutions are not restructured and functioning efficiently, that means the system would not be as efficient as Nigerians want it to be.”
