THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State has expressed concerns over why former governor of the state, Mr. Raji Fashola “is not being investigated by his successor, Akinwumi Ambode”.

AmbodeTHE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State has expressed concerns over why former governor of the state, Mr. Raji Fashola “is not being investigated by his successor, Akinwumi Ambode”.

While calling on Ambode to immediately commence probe of Fashola’s eight years administration, the PDP also observed that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) administration is still on the start block, making promises, when it ought to have hit the ground working to fulfill already made promises.

The PDP Spokesman, Taofik Gani, in a statement yesterday described the situation as “bad omen for any meaningful development in the coming four years of this administration.”

He alleged that the eight years of Fashola’s administration were characterized by Human Rights violations coupled with ‘digital and analogue’ styles of stealing of public funds that can only be ignored by a successor who is a conspirator-governor.

According to the PDP, the facts of the corruption of embezzlement, misappropriation and direct stealing of the state funds can be established in the number of abandoned or uncompleted projects; missing Subsidy Re-investment Programme (SURE-P) funds; flooding due to blocked canals purportedly paid to be cleared; the bogus allowances allocated to Fashola as governor; bogus cost of construction of Falomo Bridge; the huge local and foreign debts of N960 billion left behind, to mention a few.

“On behalf of all concerned Lagosians, we call on the Governor Ambode to immediately set up a commission of enquiry to investigate the eight years of Fashola administration. The need for this is apt in view of the cases of Human Rights abuse witnessed during the period, especially perpetrated by the State Task force and Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) officers.

“No doubt the hands of the former governor are not clean considering that in spite the officially corroborated monthly Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) of N27 billion; N9 to1 N3 billion monthly Federal Government Allocation; SURE-P Funds; Corporate donations and concessionaires interventions, the former governor left office with over 85 per cent of his projects and promises unfulfilled.”

The party added that up till now, Fashola could not categorically explain the whereabouts of over N68 billion SURE-P Funds meant for the state.

The party also insisted that the bogus cost of the Falomo Bridge must also be probed, while it further demanded that the cost of buying over the Lekki-Epe toll system must be investigated.

According the party, “Imagine all the canals purportedly contracted to be cleared and channeled are all blocked. Our people are now suffering from consequential flooding, which must be investigated.

“As a matter of urgency, Mr. Ambode should review or terminate some elephant projects that were initiated by the Fashola’s administration. Most of the projects are really prodigal and of no relevance to the masses. Example is the huge Lagos funds sunk as partner/investor in the ongoing Eko Atlantic Project.

“Mr Ambode is administratively, legally and morally compelled to commence these enquiries if only to clear the doubts. Lagosians are eager to supply evidence of corruption in the eight years of the Fashola administration.”
