The crisis in the Kogi chapter of the APC has deepened with no respite in sight as about 1000 loyal supporters of a former acting Governor in the state, Clarence Olafemi have defected from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

It would be recalled that Olafemi who was also a speaker of the state assembly, alongside other notable chieftains of the party left for the APC at its formation stage in the run up to the 2015 elections.

Led by a former Vice-Chairman of Mopamuro Local Council, Oyebode Makinde, the defectors numbering about 1000 from across the 10 electoral wards in Mopamuro Council were received by the Kogi West Senatorial District Chairman of the PDP, Taiwo Kola-Ojo during the party’s zonal stakeholders meeting, held at the City Hall in Mopa, headquarters of the council.

Confirming the defection, Olafemi told The Guardian that though he has not yet decamped he gave his supporters the leverage to move.

“We cannot continue to waste our resources within the party and later they push us out so let it be.”

He said he would dump the APC because the Governor would never allow him to contest on the platform of APC since he has the ambition to contest for the senatorial position.
